Wedding RSVP Etiquette | Wedding Planning Advice

One thing that can put a damper on the big day is waiting for guests to RSVP. After all, how are you going to decide how many tables, chairs, food, etc. you will need? For guests, what is the correct way to RSVP and what events are you expected to RSVP to? Here is some RSVP Etiquette (brought to you by Emily Post Etiquette) that may help!

An RSVP obligates invitees to accept or regret an invitation. Guests are not expected to reply for the ceremony, by they do reply to reception invitations, combined ceremony-reception invitations, or enclosed reception cards. Replies are traditionally mailed, and this remains the rule except for very casual invitations.
Usually the reply (personally written or indicated on a printed reply card) is sent to the return address on the invitation. Do not include phone numbers, e-mail addresses, or individual names.
On a very casual invitation, you might include a phone number and/or e-mail address for replies—but only if your guests are used to informal communication. Provide a physical mailing address as well for guests who prefer to reply by mail.
