The Historical Jim West Mansion

Okay, for those of you who don't know me: I am a HUGE lover of all things historical. Especially when it comes to homes. I spent my childhood vacations touring our country's most cherished landmarks. Places like Thomas Jefferson's Monticello are forever burned into my memory.

While driving between venue tours on Thursday, I drove past the most amazing home. It absolutely took my breath away. However, the poor mansion is in ruins and in dyer need of some serious TLC. It is located right across from NASA, and I was shocked to see it is completely abandoned. I decided to go home and do some research. For some reason, the home called me.

What I found out is heartbreaking. The home is called the Jim West Mansion. To make a long story short - it is in danger of being demolished in 2012. (To read the long story, click on these links: Chronicle Article, Swamplot Article, and Preserved in Time website.)

If you are at all intrigued by history, please reach out and help save this amazing home! Preserved in Time, the non-profit organization attempting to save the home, is hosting a fundraiser on May 15th at the Houston Yacht Club. For more information, please visit the Preserved in Time website. You can also volunteer your time (which I am doing) or donate money. :-)

And for those of you wondering why I feel this is worthy of posting on a blog about weddings & events: One of the things Preserved in Time would like to do is open the home to the public: including allowing it to be used for weddings and events. I would love nothing more than to see guests entertained within its great walls again!
