Weddings to Celebrate: Korrie & Sam, Warehouse Live | Houston Wedding Planner

Upon first meeting Korrie & Sam I knew I would have a blast helping them plan their April wedding at Warehouse Live, and boy did I ever! With six different musical acts playing at different points during the ceremony and reception this was not only an amazing wedding, but an amazing show! Below are some awesome photographs captured by Annabeth & Mike.

A mariachi band welcomed guests as they entered the venue!

A bag piper lead them into the reception :)

Robert Ellis and The Boys played two amazing sets during dinner.

The Space Rockers closed the evening and brought the house down!

Korrie & Sam- I truly had a blast working with you guys! Coolest wedding ever :) I wish you all the best!

Have fun with your guest book!! | Texas Wedding Planner

It always feels great to create a "wow" effect on your guests. Having a wedding full of special details is a way to do it and why don’t you start with your guest book?

If you are a traditional bride you can always go with a conventional guest book that could have your favorite pictures and couple stories. But in the other hand, if you are looking for something different and unique here are some of my favorite ideas:

Wine Bottle Guest Book

Imagine having in your home wine cellar or bar a bottle that will always remind you of the most important day of your life!  All you need is your favorite wine bottle and a metallic permanent marker.

You could toast on your first wedding anniversary with the wine and you could keep the bottle forever!

Fingerprint Guest Book

Fingerprint guest books are always fun. Although you will not have special wishes from your guests you will

definitely

have a great piece to hang on your wall.

Be creative with the image you decide to have and remember to have wipes for your guests!

Guest Book Platter

This is a very unique idea and is something that you could keep forever. Just create the

design that goes on the platter and leave the rest to your guests!

Signature Picture Frame

This is a great idea if you are looking for something unique but on the elegant side. Your guests will engrave their wishes on a picture frame that will look great on your new home!

Chair Guest Book

For the most adventurous couples here is an idea that will surprise your guests for sure. Although it seems "a little" too creative it could be a fun piece to have.

No matter which guest book you choose, the most important thing is to make all your guests wishes come true! Have fun...

Weddings to Celebrate: Christie & Patrick, Mercury Hall | Austin Wedding Planner

Christie and Patrick had the most cheerful, fun wedding! The bright color palette and fun chevron pattern were perfect in the white space of Mercury Hall. The couple chose to do a small plates dinner that freed the guests to focus on conversation and allowed them to enjoy the indoor and outdoor spaces of the venue. Christie worked hard to incorporate special elements such as banners in the yellow and white palette and a hand-made backdrop for the photobooth that made the day feel personal. Then the dancing started...this crowd likes to jam! I love it when people have a good time:)

Christie and Patrick, it was so much fun working with y'all and I wish you many days of happiness ahead!

Gracias, Danke, Arigato, Grazie, Thank You! | Texas Wedding Planning

One of the tasks that goes along with having a wedding is writing thank you notes for gifts that your friends and family generously give. It is often one that brides undertake with a somewhat petulant attitude, because let's face it, it's not easy!

But, it is one of the most important parts of your engagement and wedding. Many times, your friends and family spend a considerable amount of time, money and thought to give you and your new husband a gift, one that they feel will help you start your new life together. These are also people who may have played an important part in your life so far. And, may times they attend showers, parties and your wedding itself. They made an effort for you, so it is worth taking a few minutes and a little effort to write a thoughtful, personal note.

So, how do you do it, especially if this kind of thing doesn't come naturally, without feeling overwhelmed and repetitive?

  • As you know, I love a monogram and stationery. So make this process fun by using beautiful, personalized paper. You can order stationery with your new married monogram (that you use after the wedding). Beforehand, use your own monogram!

Silver Hand Bordered Correspondence Cards

These elegant cards are from

American Stationery

. They come in a ton of colors and are very reasonably priced.

  • Buy an embosser or stickers with your name and address on them (that you can use for Christmas cards, etc.). Most stationery shops and websites offer them, and they come in cute designs.

address embossers

This embosser one is from

Paper Source

.

  • Write your notes as gifts arrive so it doesn't pile up on you.

  • Keep a spreadsheet so you can remember who gave you what and when you wrote them a note.

  • Don't just list the gift. Say something nice about it, use a descriptive word, and how you will use it.

  • Make sure your actual "thank you" sounds genuine by writing a full sentence, instead of just "thank you."

  • If you are close to the recipient, mention how special it was that they shared in your wedding, shower, etc. It doesn't all have to be about the gift!

The best letters are always the ones that come from the heart. There are books with sample letters and adjectives to use that can help you along. But, use form letters wisely and loosely--people can tell when you haven't taken time to think of something personal to say. With email and texts and Facebook, it's a lost art to put pen to paper, but it takes a small amount of time and effort for a big reward. Your friends and family will appreciate it!

Weddings to Celebrate: Janet & Keith, The Courtyard on St. James | Houston Wedding Planner

Meet Janet and Keith - two of the coolest people you could ever meet.  Janet has one of those smiles that lights up a room.  The instant I saw it, I knew I wanted to coordinate her wedding.  And Keith is so quirky and fun ... it was easy to see why Janet loves him.

At our very first design appointment, Keith told me all about how they met and how he proposed.  I hope he doesn't kill me for saying it:  but he is a romantic.  :-)  And I knew we had to incorporate their "story" into their wedding design.  I would call this one a ribbons and romance theme.  Ribbons because, well - they are fun.  And we had a lot of them - as the ceremony backdrop, on the tables, and accenting the bride & groom's chairs.  Romance because it was all about their love journey (I know that sounds cheesy, but I don't know how else to say it).  I mentioned a couple of things about their journey in the picture captions below.

And speaking of the pictures: these are brought to you courtesy of Heather Curiel. Heather was super easy to work with and did a fantastic job capturing the feel of the day. I loved working with her! I wish I had pictures of their engagement session. It was STUNNING.

I think these guys had way to much fun with the ribbon backdrop :-P

Actual sand from their families' native countries was used in the sand ceremony.  Meaningful, to say the least.

The ceremony has as a garden feel because parks played a big part of their courtship :-)

Candles played a key role in Keith's proposal; therefore, we decided to use them as part of the escort cards.

They danced!

And danced!

Weddings to Celebrate: Sara & Rico, Camp Lucy | Austin Wedding Planner

Sara and Rico. These two are special friends of mine, so it was such an honor to be a part of their wedding. I confess that I have been going through wedding convo/Pinteresting sessions withdrawal. We had so much fun!

They got married in July at Camp Lucy, one of my favorite venues. Sara wanted to blend their two backgrounds, so cocktail hour had a decidedly Mexican flair, a nod to Rico's heritage. There was custom-made papel picado hung from the rafters, empanadas and smoked tuna tostada appetizers, a refreshing margarita and Mariachis.

Once you stepped into the event hall (made with beams from an Amish barn, by the way, gotta love the details at Camp Lucy!) Sara's English heritage took over, with an English garden feeling in a gorgeous palette of greens and soft pinks, with touches of yummy-smelling lavender. As a fun way to bring in Rico's heritage to another part of the evening, they had a sopapilla bar, with freshly made sopapillas and yummy toppings like honey, whipped cream, hot fudge and strawberries. Everything turned out beautifully, even with a little rain, all because of a fabulous team of vendors--see the full list below.

Love you two, thank you for letting me share in your day. Many, many happy days ahead!

Weddings to Celebrate: Brittaney & Pete, Hotel Icon | Houston Wedding Planner

When Brittaney contacted me in June to help plan her August wedding to Pete ... I had every intention of telling her I wasn't taking any more clients for 2012.  However, it only took two minutes on the phone with her for me to change my mind.  SHE IS AMAZING.  She has the most soothing voice.  It's the kind of voice that makes you want to hear more.  In person, she is equally as charming and has a smile that lights up the room.  And Pete is pretty darn awesome as well.

As Brittaney described what she envisioned for her wedding day: an intimate cocktail party ... where she just happened to marry the love of her life ... I was hooked.  No wedding bridesmaids and groomsmen.  No huge guest list.  No pomp and circumstance.  These two even got dressed together!  I can't tell you how much fun it was to help them plan.  I know they were glad to have a short planning process (just at two months). However, I wish they would get married several more times!

Here are a few of the outstanding pictures Chip Gillespie captured.  I adore Chip.  If you don't know him ... you are missing out.  He rocks my photo world.

Weddings to Celebrate: Lane & Greg, Hotel Saint Cecilia | Austin Wedding Planning

I promised more on this wedding that was featured on Style Me Pretty earlier this month, and here it is!

Lane and Greg's June wedding at Hotel Saint Cecilia was one of the most intimate events I've had the pleasure of coordinating. There were about 45 guests, and the focus was on family, friends and delicious food. My kind of party! Lane and Greg met at a California farmer's market, so the locally sourced, "farm to table" food was to be expected (thanks Royal Fig! I'm still thinking about the braised short ribs and creamed corn. Yum!).

Lane is a very creative person, an artist really, and she did the calligraphy for the place cards herself (I even recruited her to do the place cards for a mutual friend's wedding in July, but more on that later:). She also has very creative friends and family who contributed to the decor--her sister-in-law put together the centerpieces, her mom gathered antique vases for the centerpieces and antique napkins for each place setting, and her friend created a painting to serve as the guestbook. They also had individual jam jars as favors at each place setting. Love that!

The ceremony was on the front lawn, with a cheery circle of yellow rose petals around the bride, groom and officiant. Dinner was on the lawn of Suite 4. Groove Labs hung cafe lights to accompany the vintage chandelier already hanging from the oak tree, and an accordionist played tunes as guests enjoyed good food and good company. Their color palette was eggplant with bright pops of yellow and white. Marquee's gorgeous farm tables helped to create a feeling of an intimate, cozy, celebratory dinner party.

Lane and Greg, I had such fun getting to know y'all and I wish you many happy days ahead!

Mother of the Bride Love | Austin Wedding Planner

This sweet note popped into my inbox last night, and I thought I'd share it with y'all. Katie and David's wedding was this past Friday at Casa Blanca--more to come on that, but for now enjoy this warm fuzzy!

“We had a wonderful time on Friday.  Thank you for all of your hard work to make it such an enjoyable experience for all of us!  I never would've thought we needed a wedding planner but from now on my advice will be a MOST DEFINITE YES.  A wedding planner like you is the first priority!  Thank you Katie!  I will pass on my high recommendations whenever possible!

It was my pleasure:)

Weddings to Celebrate: Ryanne and Jason, Laguna Gloria | Austin Wedding Planner

Ryanne and Jason are the sweetest couple. They have actually known each other since middle school (cue collective "ahhh!"). Jason was one of those grooms who was very involved in the planning, which always makes me happy. Not only did he attend most of our meetings, but he also made the arbor they got married under and the groom's cake base, a replica of Kyle Field (see pics below). I was so impressed!

They got married at Laguna Gloria, which has such a special quality of making you feel like you are tucked away at a romantic Italian villa. Their ceremony was in the Amphitheater, which borders the lake (and also offers some shade!). The guests enjoyed dinner al fresco on the side lawn, and dancing under the tent on the patio. It was a perfect night!

They hired me for day-of coordination, as well as decor design. Because Laguna Gloria is so naturally beautiful, Ryanne wanted simple decor that played off the elegance of the surroundings. Our starting point was lanterns she had purchased for the tables and the Kelly green bridesmaid dresses. Jason chose khaki suits for his groomsmen, which also informed our decor choices. We accented that palette with purple, light green and white flowers. It turned out beautifully!

Ryanne and Jason, I truly enjoyed working with y'all and I wish you years of happiness ahead!

Jason added a digital photo frame as the jumbo tron, which showed pictures of him and Ryanne. Too cute!

Engagements to Celebrate: Kate & Cavan | Austin Wedding Planning

These two could not be cooler. Kate is the co-owner and photographer at Peekaboo Boudoir here in Austin, so you know she chose a super-cool photographer to capture their special day. Briana Purser, people. It's refreshing to see work that is intriguing, artsy and edgy, all at the same time. She has a unique vibe going on, and I'm digging it!

For their engagement session, they chose to shoot at Bastrop State Park, and I think it turned out great. I am so excited to work with Briana in September at Mercury Hall, AND so excited to share in Kate and Cavan's day.

Enjoy!

This photo sums Kate up: laughing and smiling all the time! What fun clients I have!

Weddings to Celebrate: Allison & AJ, St. Anne's Catholic and Hotel Icon | Houston Wedding Planner

Oh Allison and AJ.  Just thinking about them makes me smile.  :-)  They are too of the quietest people I have ever met (I probably talked their poor ears off.)  They are also two of the nicest.   And boy are the two of them MADE for each other.  God knew what he was doing when he put these two together.  :-)

Here are a few of the beautiful pictures taken by the very talented Erik of Lab L Arts (such a sweetheart to work with).  They had their ceremony at the beautiful St. Anne's Catholic Church and the reception was at Hotel Icon.  If you don't know about Hotel Icon ... you need to learn.  Stat.  What a great space with fantastic service!  We channeled our inner Audrey (Hepburn, for those who need elaboration) and went for a very clean and simple look.  I think it turned out swimmingly.  :-)

Succulent Obsession | Texas Wedding Planning

Driving around Texas the landscape is scattered with cacti and SUCCULENTS!! My new obsession. Succulents are plants that retain water, meaning that they do not need to be watered as often and thrive in this Texas heat. Now, Succulents have become part of weddings all over the United States. Whether found in the bouquets, included in the table settings, or as the groom's boutonniere. Even found in Something to Celebrate's previous blog post.

Weddings to Celebrate: Jackie & Mike, Sengelmann Hall | Schulenburg Houston Wedding Planner

Where do I begin? I have attempted to start this post so many times. However, I can never really find the right words to convey what I really want to say about Jackie and Mike.

Alas.

..I have given up. I'll just say this: I love them. I love every moment I spent planning with them (and with Jackie's parents). And I have missed Jackie every single day since her amazing May wedding. I believe Jackie and I are kindred spirits. We "get" each other. And I love when that happens (which isn't often). :-)

When Jackie and her mom approached me about helping with their "destination" wedding, I was 100% on board and excited. The destination: adorable Schulenburg, Texas. Now...while that isn't what one would typically think of when thinking about destination events, it was PERFECT for this couple. The majority of their families / friends where traveling to Texas from other states, and Jackie wanted to show them what "Texas" is really all about. Enter little Schulenburg. Who probably didn't know what hit them when we came to town. LOL

As much fun as I had helping plan this event, I couldn't have done it without all of the incredible vendors we hired. There were 18 different companies / vendors involved in making this day possible, and they all worked together swimmingly. Please scroll to the bottom of the pictures for that A+ list. :-) And as far as the pictures go ... boy was it hard to pick just a handful to show you!

Rachel Robinson was INCREDIBLE. Working with her, her assistant and the 31 Films crew that night wasn't work. It was pure fun. :-) Feast your eyes on these!

Chocolate, strawberry, and white milk was served with cake and cake truffles after dinner...

The made-to-order donut station was a huge hit...

One of the four "comfort" food stations set up for dinner...

The venue's outdoor space was transformed into an old fashion "carnival" complete with traditonal carnival food.

I'm pretty sure this was taken while the groom was "singing" with the band on stage. :-)

Weddings to Celebrate: Diana & Mickey, The Vineyards at Chappel Lodge | Austin Wedding Planner

Diana and Mickey got married in May at the gorgeous Vineyards at Chappel Lodge. Both have beautiful daughters, and the meshing of their two families was a really sweet part of the day. If you don't know about this unique venue, you should. It's fairly new, but they are growing a vineyard near the ceremony site, which should be fully grown in the next few years. It also has several guest cottages and rooms, a nice touch for out of town family and wedding party!

Every touch of the decor was thoughtful and personal. The great room where the cakes were was decorated with tons of photos of the couple and their family. Diana's Hispanic heritage was honored with Mexican wedding cookie favors. A love bird theme was first seen in the invitations, then carried over to the programs, the custom up lighting at the reception and a sweet pair of ceramic birds placed at the couple's place settings. The couple chose a vibrant palette of purples, which was beautifully translated and complemented by King Florist. There was also a vintage touch with burlap and lace linens, and centerpieces made of vintage vases. The cakes were from Nothing Bundt Cakes--not only were they delicious, but the tiny ones are called "bundtinis." How cute!

Diana and Mickey, it was a beautiful evening, and I hope y'all enjoyed every minute. I wish you and your family the most of happiness, and thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

Enjoy these photos by the lovely Katherine O'Brien!
